Huila is the leading coffee-producing region in Colombia and produces coffee of the finest quality in the world.
The department of Huila is situated in the Andes Mountains and is the homeland of the Nevado del Huila volcano. The word Huila comes from the native language of Páez and means “orange or luminous mountain“, because of the stunning topography of the region. The mountains offer a rich fertile volcanic soil, and the deep valleys and the Magdalena River draw in tropical air that establishes an ideal microclimate for growing coffee.
